Better be safe than Sorry !
Steps to Get rid of dog fleas :
1) To get rid of fleas, groom your dog regularly.
If your dog has fleas, wash him with a Flea Shampoo or add some Neem Oil. Bathing a dog regularly helps you get any flea eggs or flea dirt off your dog. It is essential to use a fine flea comb while grooming the dog as it will help you trap and fleas and dispose them.
2) Use a flea repellent to get rid of fleas on your dog.
As you might already know, Most of the available Flea products have harmful side-effects on your pet and your yard as well. So, I recommend you start with a mild product and work your way to stronger products if required. You can use Flea Away powder, which is natural, on your dog. You can also substitute these strong chemical products with natural oils like, Tree Oil , Neem Oil , Eucalyptus Oil etc. These natural oils are very effective in irritating the fleas and making them leave the pet but with time the fleas become used to it and are no longer affected by the oils.
3) Get rid of fleas in your house right away.
Once you have killed all the fleas off your dog, now is the time to free your house from all the remaining fleas and flea eggs. There are a lot of Flea Sprays and Flea Bombs available in the market that can be easily used to get rid of fleas. After using such product, make sure to Vacuum and clean your house everyday. If mere cleaning doesn’t seem to help, try a natural powder like Borax or Diatomaceous Earth Powder, make sure to cover your nose and eyes to avoid any irritation.
4) Get rid of fleas in your yard right away.
Keeping your grass short and ridding the yard of leaf piles or other “dark, moist places” will help, as will using a natural flea repellent like cedar chips along the fence line or in spots your dog really likes. You can use Flea Away in your yard (usually sprayed through a hose) to help combat fleas, but you’ll need to repeat the process after a watering or rain.
5) Feed your dog a healthy diet to get rid of fleas.
If you prefer regular dog food, try to avoid chemical preservatives, food coloring, by-products and digests, and look for meat as the first ingredient. Especially during flea season, supplementing your dog’s diet with garlic or brewer’s yeast (in powder or tablet form) can keep fleas away because of the taste.
